MANILA -- With Mayon Volcano still spewing ash flumes and lava, the number of affected families has now climbed to 22,198 which is equivalent to 89,962 persons.

This was revealed by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad in their update Monday.

The affected families are residents of 59 barangays located in Bacacay, Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Santo Domingo, and Legazpi, all in Albay.

Jalad said 18,291 families or 69,425 individuals are being served in 74 evacuation centers while 2,822 families or 11,946 persons are being aided outside.

In a related development, he said that a total of PHP118,327,244.47 worth of assistance has been extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Red Cross, Local Government Units and non-government organizations to affected families in Albay.

Also, the NDRRMC chief said that damages to agriculture were placed at PHP189,434,666.

This can be broken down into PHP160,492,650 for rice; PHP7,573,696 for corn; PHP478,000 for abaca and PHP20,890,320 for assorted high-value cash crops. (PNA)
