DAVAO CITY -- Seventy-three convicts from the Davao Region, who were freed under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA), remain at-large, the Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) said.

Major Jason Baria, PRO-11 spokesperson, said Wednesday that only three individuals have surrendered recently to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO).

"From 76 down to 73, so we are giving them 15 days ultimatum as an order of the President then after that manhunt operation will be conducted (if they will not surrender),” Baria said.

Of the 76 individuals, 34 cases are being handled by DCPO; 10 by the Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office (DNPPO); four by Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office; 12 by the Davao Oriental PPO; 13 by the Davao del Sur PPO; and three by Davao Occidental PPO.

The individuals were released from October 10, 2013 up to the present, Baria said, warning that if they fail to surrender on or before September 19, "they will become fugitives."

“So probably this will be an additional case for them. We are also considering if they will surrender after 15 days depending on their cases,” he added.

He said that most of the 76 convicts were involved in rape and murder.

Danilo Alvarez Palicte, who surrendered to the authorities on Friday (September 6), is a convicted child rapist. He was released from Dapecol last April 16 and is the first to surrender in Davao Region. (PNA)
