BUTUAN CITY – Authorities arrested a suspect was while transporting bundles of illegally gathered forest products in a predawn operation in Barangay Bangayan, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte on Saturday.

Colonel Martin Gamba, director of Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (ADNPPO), identified the suspect as Rogelio Sinones Constante, 19, a resident of Barangay A. Beltran, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte.

Gamba said the police confiscated from Gamba bundles of assorted cuts of sawn lawaan lumber products with a total volume of 1,692 board feet estimated to be worth PHP100,000.

Authorities also seized from Constante a mini dump truck with plate number RKLX 465 used in transporting the wood products.

He said the suspect is currently detained at the Kitcharao Municipal Police Station awaiting the the filing of criminal charges for violating the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 705 or the "Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines."

He said the confiscated forest products were turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Tubay, Agusan del Norte for proper disposition.

“Our continuing campaign against illegal logging and the apprehension of violators are made possible with the support of our people and the communities,” Camba said. (PNA)
