CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A total of 1,000 workers in the tourism sector in this province have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Led by the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Pampanga provincial government, the City of San Fernando and Angeles City, SM Supermalls, and other partners, the vaccination rollout on Aug. 12 and 13 aimed to intensify the campaign on safe and healthy tourism in the province.

Some 60 inoculators and medical personnel from the provincial government were deployed during the vaccination.

A total of 535 tourism workers were vaccinated during the kickoff vaccination rollout at the SM City San Fernando on Aug. 12 while 465 others were inoculated at SM City Clark in Angeles City on August 13.

Among the vaccinated were individuals whose jobs include the management and maintenance of different isolation and quarantine hotels, restaurants, leisure areas, and other tourism-related establishments.

Mayor Edwin Santiago of the City of San Fernando thanked the tourism department for the vaccination roll-out intended for tourism front-liners.

“Ang pagbabakuna sa ating mga tourism workers ay magsisilbing proteksyon sa kanila habang ipinagpapatuloy nila ang kanilang adhikain at serbisyo na buksan muli ang ating turismo (The vaccination of our tourism workers will serve as their protection while they are continuously doing their goals and services for the re-opening of our tourism),” Santiago said in an official social media account post.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, meanwhile, said the vaccination rollout, which has been held in several parts of the country, is the “department’s commitment in helping the industry and its stakeholders recoup its losses while protecting its gains amid the health crisis".

Romulo-Puyat said together with the National Task Force Against Covid-19, they will remain steadfast in inoculating tourism workers as they play a vital role in the country’s economy.

“We are doing this to ensure that our tourism workers be vaccinated because they are exposed daily on Covid-19 responses. We fought for the vaccination of tourism workers, along with Secretary Vince Dizon, Covid-19 Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar. We can only start the economy if our colleagues are protected,” the DOT secretary said.

She also noted local government units’ support in the activity. (PNA)
