TACLOBAN CITY – Ferry trips bound for Sorsogon from Northern Samar resumed late Tuesday after the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ordered the lifting of two-day trip cancellations after the weather improved.

PCG Northern Samar station commander Lt. Junior Grade Brian Michael Tuyay said large roll-on, roll-off vessels bound for Matnog, Sorsogon from Allen, Northern Samar resumed their operations at 2 p.m. on July 25.

“However, due to gale warning number 7 issued early of July 26 date all fishing boats and other small seacraft of 250 gross tonnage plying within the seaboards of Northern Samar remain temporarily suspended and advised not to venture out into the sea while larger vessels are alerted against big waves,” Tuyay said in a statement.

The trip cancellations raised on Sunday caused the stranding of 2,334 Luzon-bound passengers and 412 rolling cargoes at the Allen port in Northern Samar.

The Matnog ferry terminal in Sorsogon is the exit point from Luzon to Eastern Visayas while Allen port is the region’s entry from Luzon.

These ports form part of the northeastern seaboard nautical highway that links the country's three major island groups -- Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

As of Wednesday morning, the center of the eye of Typhoon Egay was in the vicinity of Aparri, Cagayan and has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph. (PNA)
