PNP probes 'breach' in logistics data management system

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will look into the alleged breach of its Logistics Data Information and Management System.

In a press briefing in Camp Crame on Monday, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the incident occurred at around 10 a.m.

“Right now, as a precaution, our cyber-response team immediately shut down the system to prevent further leaks, if any. Our deputy director of the DL (Directorate for Logistics) said they have yet to see if any data has been compromised,” she said.

Fajardo said the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group would also investigate the incident.

“When we talk of logistics data information, we expect logistical resources of the PNP will somehow be included in that data so we really have to check kung meron pong (if there was indeed) breach. Definitely, there are information data in the system because when we talk of logistics, it encompasses the logistical assets of the PNP,” she added.

Hunt vs. suspects in killing of Cotabato cop

In the same briefing, Fajardo said a manhunt is underway against the suspects in the killing of a police officer serving as escort of a Maguindanao del Norte mayor during a Moro family feud settlement that turned violent last January.

This came after a local court issued warrants of arrest last May 6 against the suspects in the murder of 39-year-old Staff Sgt. Zahraman Diocolano of the Maguindanao Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), who was detailed as the security escort of Datu Odn Sinsuat Mayor Lester Sinsuat.

“Aside from a certain alias "Ipjip" tagged as the mastermind in this case, three other suspects are at large. We appeal to those who have information that might lead to the suspects' arrest to come forward," she added.

Former Maguindanao del Norte board member Datu Bimbo Sinsuat said the incident happened on Jan. 2 during a family gathering held at the house of former Rep. Ronnie Sinsuat to settle a “rido” (family feud) involving Mayor Lester and the family of his late uncle, Datu Jamael Sinsuat.

However, a group of armed men arrived and shot Diocolano, who was outside the compound.

Responding police and members of Philippine Marines arrested the suspects, identified as Army Private 1st Class John Carlo Nocum, 31, a member of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, and three armed individuals. (PNA)
