TACLOBAN CITY – Eastern Visayas region is promoting its rich and unique cultural elements and talents through four days of creative shows and exhibits by students.

Dubbed "Rayhak Sinirangan", the event from May 21 to 24 is more than a mere celebration, according to Araceli Larraga, DTI Leyte provincial director.

"Rayhak" is the local term for rejoice, while "sinirangan" refers to the eastern location of the region in the Visayas.

“The event stands as a testament to the brilliant creativity and rich cultural heritage of Eastern Visayas. It features creative shows and exhibitions that highlight the exceptional talents and distinctive cultural elements of our region," Larraga said during the event’s opening on Wednesday.

"To our students and participants, your enthusiasm and passion are the heart of this event. Remember that every piece you create and every idea you share contributes to the vibrant fabric of our cultural identity,” she added.

Fashion design students from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) showcased the best and most contemporary curated creations during the Inexplorada fashion show on May 21.

Ma. Catherine Apostol, chief tourism operations officer of the DOT regional office, said an exposition of the culture and heritage of Eastern Visayas “creates unforgettable and memorable incidents.”

“I believe this event is designed to deepen your understanding and appreciation of this vibrant region," Apostol said.

EVSU Dean of College of Technology Bernard Niño Membrebe said Rayhak Sinirangan is more than just a showcase, as it is a "heartfelt tribute to our roots, our traditions, and our unique cultural identity."

“This exposition is a self-creation of the diverse cultural expressions that make our region so special," Membrebe added.

Other activities at the Robinson North Tacloban are the tourism talk by DOT on May 23, musical art featuring Eastern Visayas songs and ballads on May 24, and a cultural show and competition also on May 24. (With reports from Jhessa A. Cajeras & Harold R. Mariano, OJTs/PNA)
