BACOLOD CITY–The Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) has partnered with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) to promote volunteerism in all its four campuses in Negros Occidental.
CHMSU will designate a volunteerism office at its main campus based in Talisay City to mainstream the advocacy.
“CHMSU shall actively engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni on volunteerism as well as assist PNVSCA in promoting the advocacy,” the school administration said in a statement Tuesday.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between CHMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Jay Estrellas and PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James Gawe at the Talisay Campus Business Center on May 24 sealed the partnership.
Through the office, the state university will lead in mainstreaming volunteerism in all departments, monitor and evaluate volunteering initiatives, and conduct related research and studies.
Other initiatives include building volunteerism statistics, including setting up a mechanism for the creation and regular updating of a comprehensive database/directory involving and engaging organizations in the social development sector and submitting a quarterly statistical report/s on volunteer mobilization.
Meanwhile, the PNVSCA, the government agency mandated to promote and coordinate volunteer programs in the country, will provide technical assistance to further capacitate the CHMSU volunteer service corps as well as relevant information and materials for the promotion and advocacy of volunteerism.
It will also collaborate with CHMSU in implementing volunteering-related initiatives and link the university with international volunteer service organizations and volunteer-involving organizations.
CHMSU, with satellite campuses in Bacolod City, including those in Alijis and Fortune Towne, and in Binalbagan town, has a student population of 13,402 as of the second semester of the academic year 2023-2024.
