MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – About PHP57.4 billion worth of infrastructure projects are up for implementation in the Ilocos Region this year, including construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, bridges, and flood-control facilities.

Bulk of the projects are intended for Pangasinan at PHP22.6 billion, followed by Ilocos Norte, PHP15.7 billion; La Union, PHP13.4 billion; and Ilocos Sur, PHP5.7 billion, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Region Director Ronnel Tan during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-Ilocos in San Fernando City, La Union on Tuesday.

He said about 213.1 kilometers (km) of national roads in the region are needing maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrade, while 66.9 km will be constructed,

Bridges to be constructed this year measure a total of 30.24 linear meters while 67 bridges are up for maintenance or rehabilitation.

One of the bridges to be replaced is the Romulo Bridge in Bayambang, Pangasinan.

“We will change the design for tourism component. We wanted to integrate tourism element,” Tan said, noting that they will ensure that traffic flow in these bridges will not be affected by tourists going down to take photos.

Included for financing this year are the construction of 119.27 meters of flood control infrastructures, 120 farm-to-market road projects, as well as 99 school buildings and 494 classrooms.

Tan said there are ongoing high-impact projects in the region as of April 30.

For Ilocos Norte, these are the Bangui Bypass Road, Pasuquin Bypass Road, and Laoag City Bypass Road, Adams Ilocos Norte-Calanasan Apayao Road, Piddig-Carasi-Calanasan Road, Piddig-Carasi-Calanasan connecting Cabugao-Corner-Tuao Road, Pancian Viaduct along Manila North Road, and Maruaya-Dupitac-Calambeg-Estancia Road under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program, and the Paoay-Laoag International Access Road.

In Ilocos Sur, the projects are the Bantay-San Ildefonso Bypass Road, Bantay-Vigay Diversion Road, Vigan-Cabugao Coastal/Diversion Road, Bantay Ilocos Sur-San Quintin-Langiden Abra Road, Tagudin Bypass Road, Alilem-Sugpon Ilocos Sur-Bakun Benguet Road, Cervantes Ilocos Sur-Besao-Sagada Mt. Province Road via Laylaya, and Cervantes-Quirino Ilocos Sur-Abra Road.

The ongoing high-impact projects in La Union are Santol-Kibungan Road, Santol-San Gabriel-Kapangan Road, Bauang-San Fernando-San Juan Bypass Road, Rosario Bypass Road, and Naguilian-Bagulin-Kapangan Road.

In Pangasinan, the Bolinao-Dasol Coastal Road, Lingayen Bypass Road, Mangatarem-Sta. Cruz Road, and Pangasinan-Zambales Road to Judge Jose De Venecia Boulevard Extension Road in Binmaley and Dagupan City.

Also, the Urdaneta City Bypass Road, Binalonan Diversion Road, Binalonan-Laoac-Villasis Bypass Road, Villasis Bypass Road, Villasis-Sto. Tomas Bypass Road, Pangasinan-Nueva Vizcaya Road connecting Tarlac-Pangasinan Expressway, Rosales Pangasinan, San Manuel Pangasinan-Itogon, Benguet Road, Dagupan-Mangaldan Diversion Road, Lingayen Baywalk to Bonuan Dagupan City, Malasiqui Diversion Road, and the San Carlos City Bypass Road.
