ILOILO CITY – Over six million liters of water were delivered to around 70 barangays in the city as the rationing continues to augment supply in villages suffering from water scarcity amid the onset of the rainy season.

The water rationing through the “Oplan Bulig Tubig sa Syudad” comes from two sources –the free water donated by a private sector that started on April 30 and the city-bought water that commenced on May 15 following a declaration of a state of calamity due to water scarcity.

“As of today, we have delivered around 5,210,800 liters of the procured water and 915,900 liters of the donated water,” said Administrative Officer 1 Arvilyn Mae Jusden, assigned at the Operations Center of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), in an interview.

Jusden said most of the barangays that benefited from the rationing are in districts of City Proper, Lapuz, La Paz, and Molo, and a few in Arevalo and Jaro.

At least 500,000 liters of procured water are also expected to be delivered daily in three months while Flo Water Resources and Bombo Radyo Foundation Inc., in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Iloilo Citizens Action Group Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), donated 10,000 cubic meters.

With the onset of the rainy season, Jusden said, they intend to conduct groundwork and survey to determine the water situation and if residents still need supply augmentation.

“Right now, we could not say if we continue or stop with the water rationing even with the onset of the rainy season because we need a survey or a study,” she added. (PNA)
