MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued a Chinese national aboard the Chinese vessel “Shi Dailo” after an accident resulted in a head injury while off the coast of Zamboanga City on June 10.

In a situation report on Friday, the PCG said the victim Zhang Donggou accidentally fell on the accommodation B-deck of Shi Dailo.

“According to the information received from the National Maritime Center, the said vessel is expected to pass through Zamboanga City and request a medical evacuation,” it said.

In response, the PCG coordinated a medical evacuation from the Ben Go Wharf in Zamboanga City that consisted of medical professionals of the PCG Medical Clinic Southwestern Mindanao, personnel of the Special Operations Unit – SWM, and the Public Information Officer – SWM aboard MRRV4404.

Zhang was taken by the medical evacuation team to Brent Hospital in Zamboanga City for urgent medical attention.

“En route to the hospital, the PCG's medical personnel provided essential treatment, including wound cleaning and vital sign monitoring,” it said.

The rescue operation, it said, highlights the “cooperation and empathy” of the PCG in times of crisis.

“The PCG's response embodies the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, offering aid without regard for nationality. The swift action of the PCG resonates with a commitment to humanitarian principles and shines as a beacon of hope,” it said. (PNA)
