MANILA – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has initiated the Competitive Selection Process (CSP) for 400 megawatts (MW) of power supply to meet the increasing energy demand starting next year.
This follows the Department of Energy’s (DOE) issuance of a Certificate of Conformity to Meralco’s latest DOE-approved Power Supply Procurement Plan.
The plan outlines the Terms of Reference for a 15-year power supply agreement (PSA) intended to meet Meralco’s mid-merit requirement, targeted to commence on Aug. 26, 2025.
According to the DOE’s advisory dated Oct. 11, 2023, “natural-gas-fired power plants are highly encouraged to participate in the bidding and prioritize the use of indigenous natural gas.”
The Meralco Bids and Awards Committee for the competitive selection process (BAC-PSA) is calling on interested power generation companies to participate.
The submission of Expression of Interest is due on July 1, 2024. The pre-bid conference is scheduled for July 11, 2024, with the bid submission deadline set for Aug. 9, 2024.
In addition to this bidding, two more CSPs are ongoing to meet Meralco's supply requirements, covering 500 MW of mid-merit renewable energy (RE) capacity and 600 MW of baseload supply.
“This CSP is consistent with Meralco’s efforts to secure reliable, sufficient, and cost-competitive power for customers through a competitive and transparent bidding process,” Meralco BAC-PSA chairman Lawrence Fernandez said on Friday. (PNA)
