2 Chinese fugitives set for deportation

MANILA – Two Chinese nationals wanted in their home country are set for deportation, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Saturday.

Zhu Tingyun, 43, was arrested in Tambo, Parañaque City, and Wang Yun, 30, in Pasay City on June 19, according to a news release.

“We will deport them to China so they could stand trial for their alleged crimes and they will remain in our blacklist to prevent them from re-entering the Philippines,” BI chief Norman Tansingco said in a statement.

Both fugitives are overstaying for years.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Manila, Zhu has an outstanding warrant of arrest for running an online gambling site while Wang was involved in kidnapping.

They are detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.

Meanwhile, BI officers at Mactan-Cebu International Airport reported the arrival of four Filipino female deportees from South Korea, also on June 19.

The four were lured by sham job recruiters through the messaging app Telegram to work as entertainers in a bar for a monthly salary of PHP80,000.

Their 59-day tourist visas expired but the jobs never materialized.

“These women suffered exploitation and they ended up detained without receiving their rightful wages, all due to deceptive assurances,” Tansingco said. “We remind the public to always beware, as these deceitful recruiters paint a rosy picture of hope but often leave you in despair. If something feels off or seems too good to be true, trust your instincts.” (PNA)
