MANILA – The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) on Friday said Alsons Group has at least two pending expansion plans in Sarangani Province.

In a statement, PEZA said Alsons Group unit Kamanga Agro-Industrial Ecozone Development Corp. (KAIEDC) applied for a 32.8-hectare expansion of the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Ecozone (KAIEZ).

KAIEZ is a 91.7-hectare industrial park in Barangay Kamanga, Maasim, Sarangani Province.

“This expansion area is now pending with the Office of the President for proclamation,” PEZA said.

Aside from the pending project, PEZA said Alsons Group expressed its interest to register its 50-hectare property in the province for another agro-industrial ecozone with the investment promotion agency (IPA).

The 50-hectare parcel of land is part of its 1,000-hectare pineapple and banana plantation in Barangay Apopong, General Santos City, Sarangani Province, PEZA said.

“The proposed agro-industrial economic zone currently houses the box packaging facility of fresh pineapples and bananas, which are predominantly for export,” PEZA added.

Alsons Group is currently the country’s fourth largest pineapple producer in the country.

In terms of yields per hectare, the company is the second most productive pineapple grower in the country, producing 6,000 boxes of pineapples per hectare.

KAIEZ key locators

The Group’s power subsidiary, Sarangani Energy Corp., has total investments of PHP27.5 billion within the ecozone for its 210-megawatt coal-fired power plant inside the KAIEZ.

An integrated steel manufacturer Panhua Integrated Steel, Inc. (PISI), a locator of KAIEZ, will also begin commercial operations next year, following a PHP10.5-billion investments for the production of various steel materials and billets for cold-rolling, automobiles, and construction. (PNA)
