BUTUAN CITY – The provincial government of Surigao del Norte held the groundbreaking ceremony Friday afternoon of the Provincial Agricultural Trading Center that will consolidate the products of farmers and fisherfolk in the area.

The PHP30-million trading center will rise on a one-hectare land donated by Cortes Development Corporation in Barangay Luna, Surigao City.

In a statement on Saturday, the Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) said that aside from consolidation, the center will also control the inflow and outflow of the farm and fishery products in the city and the province.

“The center will also ensure the reasonable and competitive price of agriculture and fishery products for both the consumers and the producers,” the DA-13 said.

Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers and DA-13 Executive Director Arlan Mangelen led the groundbreaking ceremony.

Mangelen said that the center will further strengthen the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program which aims to make accessible healthy and affordable food. (With reports from Alexander Lopez/PNA)
