GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A 62-year-old rape convict from Polomolok town, South Cotabato, who was released in 2017 under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law, surrendered to police authorities on Sunday.

Lt. Col. Marvin Duadua, chief of the Polomolok municipal police station, said Monday former detainee Jose Garcia Noque voluntarily submitted himself to the station before noon in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Duadua said Noque, who is a resident of Purok Pag-asa in Barangay Magsaysay, is the first convict released under the GCTA who surrendered in the province.

“He is currently under our custody and already processed for booking,” he said in an interview.

Based on court records, the police official said Noque was convicted of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment on May 8, 1990.

The convict served his sentence at the Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan. He was freed on April 5, 2017 following the approval of his application for release under the GCTA.

Duadua added that Noque presented a certificate of discharge from prison signed by Supt. Richard W. Schwarzkoph Jr., the officer-in-charge of Iwahig Penal Colony. (PNA)
