SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) gathered all 18 municipal election offices in Antique in one venue for a one-day Voter  Education and Registration Fair hosted by the University of Antique (UA) on Tuesday.

Comelec Western Visayas Regional Election Director lawyer Dennis Ausan said the fair aimed to reach out to faculty, students, and other qualified voters who could not go home to register for the 2025 midterm elections.

“There are students from Iloilo and Aklan provinces who are presently enrolled here in UA who have availed of the fair today,” Ausan said in an interview.

In addition to registration, the election officers serve voters applying for transfer, reactivation, correction of name, and change of status.

Comelec Antique Provincial Supervisor Salud Milagros Villanueva said around 70 to 100 availed of their services while others could have availed of satellite registrations conducted in their localities.

“During the voter education, students had been encouraged to choose good leaders who could work for the progress of their communities,” she added.

UA Executive Director for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Runato Basañes said University President Dr. Pablo Crespo Jr. issued a memorandum for faculty and students to avail of the fair.

Senior high school classmates Aira Nicole Esclabanan and Ma. Claire Amor applied for registration because they wanted to participate in the election process.

“The fair is really advantageous for us students because we no longer have to line up at the Comelec Municipal Office in Sibalom to wait for our turn to be accommodated,” Esclabanan said.

She said their registration process went smoothly.  (PNA)
